What the
Wool Directory Does
The Wool Directory is a database of British wool producers; sheep
farmers and smallholders. It is a database of wool users:
textile makers and small businesses.
It is free to add your details. We reserve the right to edit
your description to keep all entries to a reasonable length.
The Wool Directory is an open website accessible to all. |
What the Wool Directory Does Not Do
The Wool Directory is not an online store or market place. The
Directory does not sell anything nor does it play an active role
in any part of the buying or selling process.
The Wool Directory is not responsible for any transactions
resulting from contacts made through the website. See our
Terms below.
The Wool Directory does not set the price for fleece or wool
products. This is between the seller and buyer. Guidance about
current wool prices can be found on the British Wool Marketing
Board website:

The British Wool Marketing Board (BWMB)
buys wool from every UK sheep owner in order to market the wool.
The majority of wool in the UK is bought and sold in this way.
Rules governing membership of BWMB can be found on their website
www.britishwool.org.uk
Several rare breeds have exemptions from the BWMB, meaning that
they are not required to be part of the BWMB system. These are :
Balwen, Boreray, Castlemilk Moorit, Hebridean, Leicester
Longwool, Lincoln Longwool, Llanwenog, Manx Loaghtan, Norfolk
Horn, North Ronaldsay, Portland, Soay, and Teeswater.
However, fleece from any breed of sheep that is part of the BWMB
system can be sold directly to craftspeople, handspinners, and
textile makers provided that the wool is to be processed by
non-mechanical means.
Our understanding of the rules is that any sheep owner who is a
member of the BWMB can sell small quantities of fleeces to
individuals for craft and textile making.
If you are a member of the BWMB and are unsure of the rules, we
urge you to contact your local BWMB representative. |

and the information about your business or activity that you
give us.
We use this only for the purpose of creating a publicly
accessible online directory.
Therefore, only give us information that you are willing to be
made available to the public and to others listed on the Wool
Directory.
We put live links to your email and website addresses. It is
your reponsibilty to ensure that you have effective spam and
anti-virus protection. If you wish us to remove these hyperlinks
for security and to reduce unwanted spam, please email us and we
will be happy to do so.
We may use your contact details to provide support, or to send
updates about the Wool Directory. These updates will be kept to
a minimum. It is not our intention to use your details for any
other reason than maintaining the Wool Directory.
If you ever have any concerns about your information, contact us
immediately. If you ever wish to be removed from the Wool
Directory, contact us via email and we will do that as soon as
